2. Whoah… 1000th post.

So eerm… it’s been about a year and couple months on here and I have reached 1000 posts. I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or bad thing yet hehe. I’ll brood over that later.

Anyhow… my two weeks break is over. aah… dissertation works starts from tomorrow onwards. Let’s hope I stay (relatively) calm like i did for my final module essays. Jame’s Joyce’s Ulysses …. YOU WILL BE MINE!!! >.<

COUNTDOWN TO AUGUST AND COMPLETION OF MASTERS BEGINS NOW.

  3. My next read :)
I know it’s embarrassing for me to have read Ulysses and NOT The Odyssey. I’m a bad literature student I know T.T
But no worries!! I bought a copy today - on a whim- and as soon as I am done with these essays, I’m off to read these ^_^
p.s. hope its worth the £14.99 I paid for it…. I’m skiint these days =_=’

  4. Such a lovely day!

I had a long but very lovely day today. Although I was woken up early this morning it meant I had enough time to play with my little nephew before heading off to uni. I travelled half the way there with my sister since she had a dentist appointment near by and guess who ended up sitting directly in front of me for most of the journey? Antonia Thomas from Misfits. No, I did not say anything to her…. I’m just not the kind of person who could do that. Though must say quite like the show.

At univeristy, I found out that I had forgotten to read the secondary material for my Modernism and Ireland class… which meant two hours of cramming. The lesson went well though, had a great discussion about Synge and Playboy of the Western World. Next week we’ll be covering some Yeats :D

My friend and I decided to grab a coffee before heading home and we ended up talking to a second year English student for about an hour. Yet again, time spent in pleasant conversation.

Now the last bit is the best! I’m on the train and an older lady sits next to me…. she’s a white woman and she asks me IN ARABIC…. “Do you speak Arabic?” Needless to say I was a little surprised, but although I understood her, I’m not very proficient in Arabic. Then I take out a book on Yeats’ collected works and she asks me what I am reading. Turns out… her father was a Yeats expert and used to teach some Irish writing courses (specifically on Yeats) in Ireland. She starts reciting some lines of a poem to which… surprisingly….. I knew what she was talking about. It was “The Second Coming”. We then ended up going into a very interesting discussion about Joyce and Yeats and how I should really visit Dublin (but not the north, where she grew up, apparently it’s not so nice haha). Damn, I was having such a nice time! Then she asked me if, where I am from, there are any famous writers such as that. Bless, she was so sweet. We started discussing Somali poetry and the little I have learnt from my father. Then she tells me about what she loves about Arabic poetry and a few other miscellaneous topics.

Sadly, i reached my stop and having completely forgotten to ask her for her details, had to rush off :(

Nevertheless, I had a good day.

  5. Just mouth watering!

I just recieved the reading list for MA English today and I am so excited! I do hope I get accepted, just one more step left before I know I am confirmed a place ^_^

Needless to say the reading is INTENSE and I feel like I’ll be spending all of my days reading but honestly it’s that fact that gets me excited; I’ll be able to cover a broader range of texts within every topic. So far the modules that seem most interesting are “Forms of Modernism”, “The Cultural Legacy of the Great War” and “James Joyce’s Finnigans wake”. I’m not usually the type shy away from interesting subjects on the bases that they are too challenging but I honestly don’t think I will be doing Finnigans wake; I’ve had experience with Joyce and I still cannot get over Ullyses haha!

On the whole there are so many interesting topics to be covered I can’t wait to get my teeth stuck into it all ^_^

  6. "Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods’ roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine."
